Abolition of Kashmir Special Status Under Article-370 By Narendra Modi Government and its Repercussions

Kashmir dispute is one of the world’s persistent conflicts between the big actors of South Asia i.e India and Pakistan, which has affected the regional geopolitical landscape. There is no viable diplomatic road map exists for resolving the conflict. The issue has become complex because both countries have nuclear nukes and left no option for future prospect for peace. The unending ebb and flow of violence in Indian-held Kashmir leaves innocent and unarmed people in an uncertain situation, and the great powers, including the United States, are not taking an interest to resolve the issue through diplomatic means. The Indian right wing Janata Party’s leader Narendra Modi, has taken actions to withdraw Kashmir special status under Article-370 and converted it into a federally administered territory. Thus, the Indian government actions have altered the regional dynamics and diminished the chances for lasting peace. Further, necessitating immediate intervention by global actors to prevent a potential nuclear war in the region.
